GREY POWER - you're only as old as you feel !

Our population is aging but just because you have grey hair or are retired doesnt mean you are infirm ! We'll be discussing the enormous wealth we have in the intellect and experience of our older people. Why let them put you "out to pasture" when there is so much living to do !

We'll meet a man in his 70's who takes tourists on out back camel drives !

Also, Professor Patti Moore is an industrial designer and gerontologist an interesting occupational mix but her passion is the rights of older persons. She was in Perth speaking last week at The International Federation on Aging's conference "Maturity Matters". She is a leading authority on the behaviour and  needs of the elderly

As a 25 year old woman Patti embarked on an incredible experiment. She disguised her youth  with elaborate makeup and latex and, as an old woman  travelled across North America  finding out how people reacted to someone who appeared old. Seems people DO judge a book by its cover .

PROCEDURE OF THE WEEK

BRACHYTHERAPY FOR PROSTATE CANCER

No, its not a Billy Ray Cyrus song about medicine! Brachytherapy is an exciting treatment for cancer of the prostate. Not suitable for all patients and not yet attracting a Medicare rebate, this treatment has been shown to be as effective as many other forms of treatment for the disease but has less of the potential devastating side effects.

Debate still rages amongst  health  professionals and men's health support groups around the screening and treatment of this very common disease.

Currently Brachytherapy costs around $A15,000 to have ................should the government pick up the tab for those men in whom it is appropriate ???

We'll meet an expert in radiation oncology ie  the treatment of cancer by  radiation and discuss the issues.

I have a link to the prostate foundation of Australia on my support group page for more info do pay them a visit

No wonder you'd be tired and fall asleep during the day when you've woken yourself up over 100 times a night. Snoring is not only annoying for partners it has in some cases been linked to heart disease and blood pressure problems.

While not all snoring leads to sleep apnoea you may not even know you have it .... Joining us in the studio is Dr Matthew Naughton - sleep expert to talk to us about this extremely common and often undiagnosed disorder
