PREDICTING THE FUTURE OF FASHION
WHO DECIDED WHAT WE WEAR
Sue Dixon predicts the future. No she's not an astrologer or weather forecaster. She's much more sought after than people in either of those two groups. The pearls of wisdom (or maybe this year they'll be diamantes) that slip from her lips are collected by devotees of fashion because Sue is managing director of Retail Enterprise developments and her company is the exclusive agent to the Paris Based trend forecasting agency Peclars Paris.
Sue is in Melbourne to take part in a panel who will discuss the fashion forecasting at a breakfast tomorrow morning. On the panel with her are Melma Hamersfeld, founder and director of Metalicus and Michael Angel, fashion stylist.
This breakfast is part of that industry's Fashion Exposed trade exhibition at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre this coming week. The exhibition is not open to the public .
It will be fascinating to talk to Sue about how
fashion direction is planned or directed.
More information about The Fashion Exposed trade exhibition can be found here - www.fashionexposed.com

VAL JELLAY
Val
Jellay is surely Australia's consummate variety performer. She made her
stage debut at only four years of age. Her teenage years were spent performing
twelve shows a week on the famous Tivoli Vaudeville circuit, both as a featured
dancer and comedy partner to such famous names as George Wallace, Jim Gerald,
and Roy Rene (Mo). She toured Australia and New Zealand with the Tivoli, which
was the biggest show of the time.
Val then spent three years performing in England, Ireland, Germany, Malta,
Austria and Italy, working with show business heavyweights like Max Miller,
Joyce Grenfell, Ronnie Ronald and the legendary Laurel and Hardy. On her return
to Australia, Val produced shows for Sorlie's Revue Company, during which time
she met and l
ater
married Australian comedy icon, Maurie Fields.
Val's first television job lasted seven years in the variety show,
Sunnyside Up. She also enjoyed roles in The Sullivans, Homicide, Division Four,
Cop Shop, Matlock, Carson's Law, Prisoner, and Solo One, culminating in an eight
year run in the Crawfords series, The Flying Doctors, as one of the lead actors.
Recently, she appeared in an extended guest role on the hit show, Neighbours,
opposite Bud Tingwell.
After a wealth of corporate appearances with husband, Maurie, where they were
billed as Australia's King and Queen of Vaudeville, Val is now enjoying a
successful solo career as a guest speaker/performer, offering songs, inspired
humour, and showbiz anecdotes regarding the legends she knew so well. Val is
also the author of three best selling books, a regular movie reviewer on G.M.A,
and a well known voice in many current radio ads. Val returned to theatre,
playing a featured role in the Broadway musical, Crazy For You, on it's
Australian tour. She followed that with a moving portrayal of Hattie, the
"Broadway baby" in Sondheim's Follies. Most recently she starred in
Cole Porter's Anything Goes at the State Theatre in Melbourne. The highlight of
her extraordinary career was being honoured in a recent episode of This Is Your
Life.
