AUSTRALIA DAY SPECIAL !
OUTSIDE BROADCAST
live from Dawes Point at the Rocks on Sydney Harbour
below is a picture taken at the broadcast I have added since of
Stan Zemanek and myself with the Sydney Opera House in the background
thankyou to all those who came down and said hello it was great to see you !

Congratulations to all the recipients of Australia Day Honours
and welcome to those people
who receive their Australian Citizenship today
and to all those people currently battling Bushfires
our thoughts are with you and we hope you remain safe
I hope that the Community Spirit that has naturally arisen following the tragedies of Bali and the recent and ongoing bushfires can be cemented today on Australia day to forge a strong future for our country. These are uncertain times and we need to stand together as Australians no matter what our origins politics or culture.
I hope that we might consider looking at Australia Day as a celebration of PEOPLE - all those who have contributed in a positive way to our wonderful country and our heritage and leave politics out of it.
Some people will be recognised by awards and others will continue to work in the background, without them our communities would falter.
We all need to think about what it takes to make a community strong and recognise that we have all the ingredients in our country - we just need to play our part, however small.
______
Today we will be broadcasting live from Dawes Point in Sydney the program will be looking at celebrating those Australians who strive to make our home a better place.

HEALTHY HOLIDAYS
CRUISING THE OUTBACK IN STYLE WITH BILL PEACH
For Australia Day our Healthy Holiday will catch up with the wonderful Bill Peach - I remember growing upin the 1960's watching Bill on This Day Tonight on the ABC and then following that, his wonderful travel program. Bill's brand of journalism was always top class and for the last 18 years he has applied the same standards to his travel business. Bill Peach Journeys are exactly what the doctor ordered in my view - his Air cruising trips allow you to experience the wonder of the outback while knowing you'll be touching down in time for cocktails and have 4 or 5 star sleeping arrangements ! WOW, now that's my kind of outback adventure !

KIDSPEAK
Children and especially teenagers often speak a language that seems foreign - when something is "bad" - its good and if its "sick" its even better ...I am never to sure if cool things are good or really bad .....but I gather it can be either .... keeping up with the changing terminology of youth is a challenge but Dr June Factor has risen to the task . She is and expert in language and has done extensive research in children's lore and language including rhymes, games, riddles, jokes, colloquial speech. She is the author of "Kidspeak" which , as the title implies is a dictionary of terms that kids use. She has captured terms over years and its a book that brings back memories !

This week 2UE celebrates its 78th birthday and also the return of night time talk king, Stan Zemanek.
I first met Stan when I took part as a panellist on Beauty and the Beast on Channel 10. I picked him in one: a real teddy bear hiding in wolfs clothing. Behind the fast words and strong opinions is a delightful and genuine person.
Stan and his adorable wife Marcella are a great team and they'll be popping in for a chat about yachts, grandkids and coming back to Sydney radio.
